Hidden Sugar…

Most of us know to avoid sugar ladden drinks and sodas, but where else are your children (and possibly you!) getting that unwanted sugar??

 

Fruit leather~ it has just as much sugar as fruit juice

Low – fat peanut butter ~ the fat is replaced with sugar for taste and texture

Yogurt ~ check your label! Some yogurts contain more sugar than a candy bar!

Cereal ~ recommended sugar amount is 5 grams per serving. I fudge and allow 10 grams.

Flavored milk ~ might as well have dessert …

Tips:

  • When fat is taken out of food, sugar is often put in. A low fat label is not a guarantee that your food is healthy.
  • Avoid foods with more than 10 grams of sugar
